Daniel Carter – Author at NHS Pay Calculator SS

Daniel Carter spent eleven years working inside NHS payroll departments across two NHS Trusts in the North West of England — first as a Payroll Administrator at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, then as a Senior Payroll Officer at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where he managed payroll processing for over 3,200 Agenda for Change staff across Band 2 through Band 8c.

During his time in NHS payroll, Daniel handled everything from AfC increment processing and salary sacrifice scheme administration to maternity pay calculations, MARS settlement figures, and pension contribution tier changes. He dealt directly with staff queries about take-home pay discrepancies, tax code errors, and the impact of pay rises on net salary — the exact questions this site was built to answer.

Daniel holds a CIPP Foundation Degree in Payroll Management from Middlesex University and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals. He completed additional NHS-specific training through ESR (Electronic Staff Record) and has worked directly with NHS Employers guidance documents across multiple pay award cycles from 2015 through to the current 2026/27 AfC settlement.

After leaving frontline NHS payroll in 2022, Daniel began building tools and resources to help NHS staff understand their own pay — something he saw thousands of employees struggle with during his career.
